Summer Gear to Keep Your Dog Cool in the Hot Summer Months
Unlike humans, dogs do not have sweat glands (except for a few on their feet). Only way they get rid of body heat is through panting. Here are some tips to keep your dogs cool in the hot summer months.
- Be sure to give your dog access to plenty of fresh water
- Never leave your dog in the car
- If your dog is outside during daytime, provide shade
- Watch out for heatstroke – contact your vet immediately if your dog shows any sings of heatstroke.
- Protect your dog (especially pale colored dog or shorthaired dog) from sunburn by applying a sunscreen (SPF 15 or above)
